Thyssenkrupp nucera AG & Co. KGaA (Dortmund, Germany) and nonprofit well:fair have agreed on a two-year partnership contributing to projects focusing on access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in East Africa. thyssenkrupp nucera, a global leader in electrolysis technologies, is supporting the well:fair projects with an annual donation of EUR 25,000.
well:fair, formerly the Neven Subotić Foundation, has implemented more than 500 WASH projects in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania since 2012. In a region where approximately half the population lacks access to clean water, the organization helps more than 400,000 people by providing wells and sanitary facilities in communities and schools there. With the support of thyssenkrupp nucera, well:fair will build two wells in Ethiopia and Tanzania, among other things.
“Access to clean water is essential for health, education, and economic development. This is where our projects come in. At thyssenkrupp nucera, we have a strong partner who shares our values and comes directly from our neighborhood,” says Neven Subotić, founder and CEO of well:fair. “Together, we can initiate further projects and reach even more people.”
“We are very aware of our responsibility as a global company – and we want to live up to that responsibility. Water plays an important role in our technology. WASH projects are therefore the ideal approach for us to make our contribution,” says Tuğçe Uysal, Head of ESG & Sustainability at thyssenkrupp nucera. “With well:fair, we have the right partner at our side: based in Dortmund, well-connected in the project regions, and highly transparent. Together, we are working to provide access to clean water where it is most urgently needed.”
The partnership with well:fair is a key component of thyssenkrupp nucera’s commitment to sustainability and its own corporate social responsibility. The materiality analysis underlying the sustainability activities has identified water and the responsible use of scarce resources as key issues for the stakeholders of the electrolysis specialist. As part of its collaboration with well:fair, thyssenkrupp nucera will raise awareness of the issue among its employees, involve them in the projects, and enable them to launch their own social initiatives.
