| By Mary Bailey

On April 8, 2020, Fluid Imaging Technologies, Inc. (FIT; Scarborough, Maine; www.fluidimaging.com) was acquired by Yokogawa Electric Corp. (Tokyo; www.yokogawa.com).

As FIT joins the Yokogawa Group, Yokogawa will be able to expand its portfolio of cell observation and particle analysis solutions offered by its life innovation business, and thereby strengthen its business targeting the bioeconomy market.

With a core business is industrial automation and measurement technology, Yokogawa owns over 116 small companies – like Fluid Imaging – that are operated independently. FIT expects to continue to operate as an independent entity. Yokogawa also recently acquired AI firm Grazper Technologies.

Being a technology company, Yokogawa is interested in Fluid imaging – and the FlowCam – for its imaging technology, software, and the varied markets where the FlowCam is sold.  They have expertise in artificial intelligence, process control, and imaging.

FIT has initiatives to improve upon the capabilities of VisualSpreadsheet software, and to add continuous processing to the FlowCam, and remains confident that Yokogawa will provide the resources and expertise to bring these initiatives to fruition in the very near future.

The company plans to maintain offices in Scarborough Maine, and will continue to support users with technical customer support and after-market sales.
