Technology Profile: Diammonium Phosphate Production

Diammonium phosphate (DAP) ranks among the most important phosphate-based fertilizers, not only for its high nutrient content, but also for its excellent physical properties, such as high solubility and alkaline pH around the dissolving granules. DAP is commonly formulated in a controlled reaction of phosphoric acid with ammonia. It is typically produced in both granular form, to be used as fertilizer either directly or blended with other types of fertilizers, and in nongranular form, to be used in liquid fertilizers. The process The following paragraphs describe a process for diammonium phosphate production from phosphoric acid and ammonia via an ammoniation-granulation process using a pipe reactor.
