Ineos and Firmenich rapidly increase hand sanitizer production

| By Mary Bailey

Following construction of three other sanitizer plants, Ineos (London; www.ineos.com) announced that it is to build a fourth hand sanitizer plant. The plant to be built in Etian, France will be located to serve the hard-hit hospitals in Paris and Northeastern France, as well as meet the needs of Belgium.

The company has also announced that it has met its ten-day target to build a hand sanitizer plant in Lavera, France and has started production of 1 million hand sanitizers a month.

INEOS is focusing on meeting the needs of front line medical and care services as well as making “pocket bottle” hand sanitizers available for people’s personal use. These will be produced to World Health Organisation (WHO) specifications. Other companies who have pivoted their production capacities to make sanitizing and disinfection products include BASF, Perstorp, Huntsman, Henkel, Sasol and many others.

Also rapidly ramping up sanitizer production is Firmenich (Geneva, Switzerland; www.firmenich.com), which has built upon its previous donation of 20 tons of hand sanitizer in Geneva, further transforming its production lines to provide hand sanitizers. Firmenich is increasing its production capacity to 100 tons for hospitals, as well as medical and emergency services, across the U.S. and Switzerland.

Firmenich was among the first industrial manufacturers to adapt its production to make hand sanitizer, which was donated to the Geneva University Hospital and other medical and emergency services.
