The Simetal EAF FAST DRI is a new electric arc furnace that is specially designed for the use of direct reduced iron (DRI). It allows a continuous melting process, as electric energy input and DRI are supplied during tapping (tilting the furnace to pour molten steel). This shortens tap-to-tap times and reduces specific energy consumption, the company says. With a 150-ton furnace, an overall productivity increase of around 15% can be realized, the company claims.
