As a communications gateway, the RUI can deliver multiple communication protocol options. The device’s T4A temperature classification means that its surface temperature will not rise above 248°F (120°C). — Watlow Electric Manufacturing Co., St. Louis, Mo.
A new version of this piping-system design software
Launched in March, HydroFlo 3 is the latest version of this popular piping-system design software. With HydroFlo, pumped, gravity and re-circulating flow systems, conveying any type of liquid, can be modeled and solved for their steady-state flows and pressures. This new version expands system capacities, provides additional editing features and improves analysis results and pump-curve plotting. The new Pipe Schedule Editor enables the creation, editing, importing and exporting of pipe schedules using both standard English and metric/SI nominal diameters. HydroFlo can communicate with PumpBase, the company’s pump-selection software. Once HydroFlo determines a pump’s operating parameters, the data can be sent to PumpBase for selecting optimal pumps. PumpBase can then send the selected pump curves back to HydroFlo for use in a conveyance-system design. — Tahoe Design Software, Nevada City, Calif.

Three-phase separation in a single machine
Three-phase separation has now become a significant alternative in the food industry both for starch production for separating wheat starch and gluten or for extracting animal or vegetable fat and oil. In all these processes, two liquids have to be separated from a solid phase. Previous processes used a decanter or separator to separate the solid from the liquid phase, and then the liquid phase had to undergo another stage to separate the two liquids. That meant at least two machines were required. The Tricanter makes it possible to separate two liquid phases from a solid phase, as long as they cannot dissolve in each other. — Flottweg SE, Vilsbiburg, Germany
A solid-state relay with fast release times and little noise
The RV8S solid-state interface relay boasts a compact 6-mm footprint, and features high switching cycles, extended operating life and high-speed load switching. Common uses of the RV8S include general load switching in control systems for assembly machines, solenoids, molding machines and other applications requiring a high repetition rate. The RV8S has operate and release times that are much faster than electromechanical relays. The relay also generates no acoustic and far less electrical noise than its electromechanical counterpart because it makes use of semiconductor outputs instead of electrically sparking contacts. The RV8S can safely operate in temperatures from –20 to 60ºC and humidity from 5 to 85%. — IDEC Corp., Osaka, Japan
A new plasticizer for phthalate-free solutions in PVC
With a key plasticizer, dioctyl phthalate (DOP), no longer permitted under European Union REA
CH regulations after February of this year, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compounders and processors will have to move to safer alternatives. These interlocks withstand temperatures over 1,800°F
Smith Flow Control
In recent tests, the GL and QL interlocks withstood temperatures of up to 1,830°F (1,000°C). Performed by Score Group plc, the tests found the QL and GL to be compliant with the temperatures and conditions specified in API Standard 607 6th
Edition — 2010 and ISO 10497:2010. The tests verified that, in the event of a fire, the hardware will continue to function and the integrity of the locking mechanism will be maintained. During the test, the lock had one key inserted and one free; following cooldown, the lock remained secure on the valve. Only when the other key was inserted could the lock be moved to the open/closed position, as should happen. — Smith Flow Control USA, Erlanger, Ky.
High-performance safety relays are only 6-mm wide
The new PSRmini safety modules (photo) are said to be the narrowest safety relays in the world, but deliver the performance of a larger safety relay. With an overall width of just 6 mm, they offer a high level of safety, thanks to the use of force-guided contacts. The compact design is possible thanks to the newly developed relay technology from this company. The relay can be integrated directly in devices such as motor starters. The elementary relay with forced guidance in accordance with EN 50205 consists of an N/O and an N/C contact. Energy consumption is reduced by up to 20% due to the low current consumption of the new relay. — Phoenix Contact GmbH & Co. KG, Blomberg, Germany
Introducing pH sensors that are able to learn
Not knowing when pH sensors will require maintenance or if a sensor is going to fail unexpectedly can be a problem. A solution to this problem comes in the form of the trademarked technologies, Intelligent Sensor Management (ISM) and Sensors That Learn. New ISM algorithms allow pH sensors to actually learn from the conditions in a process. Sensors That Learn delivers more accurate sensor-health diagnostics more quickly than previous versions, and enhances the consistency of sensor-lifetime information. When an ISM sensor is connected to a PC running the iSense software, all relevant data are displayed on the software's iMonitor screen, allowing evaluation of the probe. — Mettler Toledo AG, Urdorf, Switzerland

Use these ribbed burst panels in vacuum conditions
This newly launched ribbed bursting panel ensures that safe operations are maintained when low to medium levels of vacuum are present. The panel’s unique design can withstand vacuum or backpressure of up to 40% of the minimum burst pressure, making it suitable for many standard applications, such as silos and bucket elevators, where the dusty conditions commonly associated with the storage and handling of grains and powders can potentially lead to dangerous explosions. The non-torque-sensitive panel has a low-profile, space-saving design, and is available with the optional benefit of an integral burst-detection system for instantaneous notification when the panel has functioned. — Elfab Ltd., North Shields, U.K.
Precision gas-control for harsh environments
