At the headquarters of RENOLIT SE (Worms, Germany), construction work on a new plant for mixing formulations as part of raw materials processing — known as the “mixing plant” — is progressing. Earthworks for the project began in February this year, and the precast concrete elements are currently being installed. With a planned investment of €56 million, the family-owned company is sustainably strengthening the future viability and competitiveness of the RENOLIT site in Worms and modernizing the on-site infrastructure for the long term.
The mixing plant plays a key role in the manufacturing process: this is where the various raw materials — such as plastics, color pigments and other additives — are weighed out precisely according to the formula and blended together. The finished mixture is the essential raw material for the manufacture of RENOLIT’s high-quality plastic films in the subsequent production stages.

“With this investment, we are safeguarding the long-term performance of our main plant in Worms,” explains Dr. Michael Bätz, Plant Manager at RENOLIT’s headquarters. “The new facility enables us to make our production processes more efficient while significantly improving working conditions for our staff through modern ergonomic and logistics concepts. We are also making targeted investments in environmentally friendly technologies.”
As well as improving cost-effectiveness through a high degree of automation, an important aspect of the modernization is to ease the burden on staff in their day-to-day work. In the future, automated, self-driving transport vehicles will handle the transport of heavy material containers, thereby significantly reducing the physical strain on the workforce. The new building spans several stories. An enclosed steel connecting tunnel links the new mixing plant directly to the existing production hall, where the plastic films are manufactured. Through this tunnel, the transport vehicles can move the materials back and forth fully automatically, sheltered from the weather.
State-of-the-art, user-friendly technology is also being used inside the new mixing plant. To begin with, eight large storage silos are available outdoors for storing raw materials. If required, the capacity can be increased to up to 16 silos. To measure out the various raw materials precisely, 37 automatic weighing stations are being installed. A specialized system also ensures that even the smallest quantities, such as color pigments, are added with gram-level precision. Six large mixing stations and a modern, computer-controlled system guarantee a smooth and safe production process.
Environmental criteria were also taken into account during the planning stage. For example, the building is heated by heat pumps. The container mixers utilize a new, low-maintenance drive system that enables more efficient cooling and reduces noise levels during operation. Furthermore, structural measures designed to contain fluids ensure that no products can leak into the environment.
Following the start of construction in February this year, the building’s structural work is due to be completed by December 2026. Installation of the new plant equipment will begin in November 2026 and will take place in parallel with the ongoing construction of the building. The new dosing plant is scheduled to be commissioned in June 2027. “With this ambitious project, RENOLIT is paving the way for long-term, efficient and environmentally friendly production right here at the Worms site,” summarizes Dr. Michael Bätz.
