Show Preview: POWTECH TECHNOPHARM

| By Mary Page Bailey

From September 29–October 1, the bulk solids and conveying technology industry will gather at the Nuremberg, Germany exhibition center. Powtech Technopharm is a leading trade fair for processing and bulk-solids technology, drawing exhibitors from across the chemical process industries (CPI) — including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food, non-metallic minerals, ceramics, glass, machinery and equipment manufacturing, recycling, environmental technology, cosmetics and batteries. Established companies and start-ups alike will showcase a broad range of technological solutions for the production and processing of powders, granules, bulk solids, fluids and liquids. The following is a preview of select products on display at the show.

Two flat-die pellet mills for a wide variety of production needs

This company is highlighting two flat-die pellet mills designed for different production environments. The compact pellet mill (model 14-175) is ideal for laboratories and applications with limited space. The more powerful pellet mill (model 33-600; photo) is designed for industrial applications. Both pellet mills can optionally be GMP certified for applications in the pharmaceutical industry. These flat-die pellet mills are particularly suitable for pelleting dusty materials with low bulk density that are difficult to dose. They can also be used for temperature-sensitive additives, among other applications. Hall 7A, Stand 520 — Amandus Kahl GmbH & Co. KG, Reinbek, Germany

AI-enhanced inspection and performance optimization

The QUAT2RO® artificial intelligence (AI) suite features the AI-powered Q Valve Check camera (photo), which can be used, for instance, to ensure that valve bags are correctly opened before being attached and filled, decreasing machine errors and product loss significantly. The Q Seal Check system allows for a faster detection of improperly sealed bags before palletizing, lowering the effort of retroactive troubleshooting. These AI solutions can help to relieve operators from repetitive, high-strain tasks and enable them to focus on process optimization and preventive actions. Energy-efficient thin-film drying combined with a heat pump

The D-Dryer HTHP (photo) combines thin-film drying with a high-temperature heat pump to enable the efficient recovery of process heat from the vapor stream. As a result, a large portion of the evaporation energy is fed directly back into the drying process, which significantly reduces operating costs and CO2 emissions. In contrast to convective drying processes, heat transfer in contact drying takes place directly via heated surfaces. Evaporation takes place without an active air supply, resulting in almost pure vapors that can be efficiently condensed and used for energy. These continuous thin-film dryers process liquids, suspensions, pastes and moist solids. Hall 7, Stand 849 — Buss-SMS-Canzler, Düren, Germany

Advanced detection and control for explosion-protection devices

The EXP control system (photo) supports all of this company’s active explosion-protection equipment, which may include any combination of pressure and optical detectors, explosion suppression canisters, chemical explosion isolation bottles and explosion isolation valves. An interactive touchscreen display relays easy-to-interpret system information, such as status or warning notifications, using descriptive text and icons. Simple navigation allows users to monitor the status of all devices connected to EXP, such as each individual explosion-suppression canister’s pressure status, lockout gate position, readiness and more. EXP can cover multiple zones within a single panel and is capable of being further expanded by connecting additional EXP panels to work independently or collectively as a shared zone for larger applications. High-containment system promotes operator ergonomics

The SafeSeal DuoPro (photo) is an ergonomic two-in-one tool designed for the safe sealing, crimping and cutting of transfer bags and liners holding highly potent materials and critical powder products. Its defined crimping force ensures reproducible, GMP-compliant sealing results up to OEB-5 containment standards and integrates seamlessly into existing containment processes. This practical solution is designed to enhance operator safety, process reliability and efficiency across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences and chemical industries.
