These MBR membranes are self-healing

| By Chemical Engineering

This company’s Bio-Cell sheet, which makes up the core of its Bio-Cell MBR (membrane bioreactor) module, has a self-healing mechanism. Due to its sandwich-like and self-supporting structure, the membrane “heals” itself, even though it might be damaged by deep scratches, cut edges, and so on, and closes any scratch or cut immediately. Tests have proven that even under the worst-case conditions, such as very low MLSS (mixed-liquor suspended solids) concentrations and significant damage to the sheet, the Bio-Cell module offers turbidity values that are compliant with existing international regulations for wastewater. — Microdyn-Nadir GmbH, Wiesbaden, Germany
