This company has introduced a modular version of its biological water-treatment system, known as ABMet. The patented system uses naturally occurring microbes to reduce levels of selenium and other metals in water from coal mines and power plants. The ABMet process involves running wastewater through a biologically active filter, which is “seeded” with microbes that target selenium and other potentially toxic metals. The initial ABMet systems were customized designs specific to a particular site, but the company is now offering its bioreactor water treatment product in a scaleable, modular format that reduces installation and overall project costs.
